Looks like Optimum Online is messing with port filtering again.  Apparently the TCP SYN packet can get to port 80 on the host, but when that host tries to respond to the client with a source TCP port of 80, that packet is dropped.  Basically all TCP packets with a source port of 80 are dropped at the first router, not the border.

I suggest the usual complaining, etc.

Me and my lack of a life decided to learn (or at least try out) XSL/XML tonight.  I converted my computers page to XML with an XSL stylesheet.  Um, yeah, it should look almost exactly the same as before, but now it's um, more complex.  Don't try this if you're using IE5.x, since that browser uses an old (broken) standard.

I hope you did more exciting things this evening!

This should probably go under real news, but I think it's too funny:

[prox:tacolinux:9:05:1]% host riaa.org
riaa.org A 208.225.90.120
riaa.org A 10.10.10.1

Some lamer decided to DDoS me today.  Started at 12:00AM with 90% packet loss, and is now down to around 20%.  Bandwidth is still fully utilized though, so some things might be a bit laggy.

I'm hoping most of the compromised hosts will be shut down/fixed by tomorrow.  I suppose this is the first time a part of my network has fell victim to a distributed attack of this nature (I don't count brute forcing passwords), why do I have the urge to feel important?  (Update: The DDoS finally stopped around March 12th.)

Apparently a number of IPv6 tunnel brokers are being actively DDoS'ed.  From what I hear it's he.net, freenet6.net, and ipng.org.uk.

Looks like the brainless are attempting to make an impact again, oh well.

The RPI-ACM Search Engine has undergone some improvements lately, including photos and statistics.  As documented on the page, you must have a me.jpg/gif in your RCS public_html directory for a picture to appear.

Yikes, my last two postings started off with the same phrase...scary.

Anyway, I've ditched my old IRC client and am now using Irssi, recommended to be by silencer.  Good multiple server support, better windowing support, and non-exploitable features, hehe.  Unfortunately, the Debian testing package seems to be broken...even though sid works fine (should be the opposite).

Ok...time to be productive...

Not much news lately. I lead a boring life, sorry :)  (Update on 02/20/2003: Oh, that's still true...since I'm messing with update scripts, hmm.)
