Good morning! Today seems like a randomly nice day, so I snapped a shot of the view out my window. Just registered for next semester, I'll put up a schedule in due time.
I'll be registering for the fall 2003 semester on Thursday. Here's a lazy screenshot of the proposed schedule. I'll HTMLize it later.
Due to a samba DoS attempt from a host on RPI's ResNet earlier tonight on my firewall box (atlantis), I will no longer be sharing files on the campus network. Darthvader at 00:A0:24:9C:81:8C should probably think before he does this again...cause it only hurts the students in the end.
In other news...Fred Smith and I ran into a somewhat annoying snag while setting up some DNS forwarders on Xicada.Net today. Basically, I had to merge two patches to get dnscache talk to another dnscache service. Overall, djbdns is a good DNS caching/authorative nameserver solution, but it does have some quirks. Patches can be found here.
Not much news lately. I totally redid DNS on my network and dumped that old WinNT DNS server I was using for caching. 100% tinydns/dnscache now :)
Oh, btw, peoplw who run multiuser boxen:
[prox:tacolinux:21:50:4]% ./ptrace [+] Attached to 30129 [+] Waiting for signal [+] Signal caught [+] Shellcode placed at 0x4000d6ad [+] Now wait for suid shell... sh-2.05b#Yeah, better patch it!
In other news the Xicada network is progressing nicely, rebuilt three links today. Fred Smith has been nice enough to make a neat diagram of the current state of the network. Yes, to get to the technopalace, traffic still goes through Florida...we're working on it...
Enjoy what's left of the break!
It's a little past halfway through my spring break, so I figured I'd post some news.
I've successfully installed Gentoo Linux on my laptop. After a couple days of using it (compiling, mostly) I'm somewhat pleased with the results. Packages are brandy-new, and fully customizable...very good. OpenOffice only took 8 hours to compile, hehe.
Next week is spring break for RPI students. This means I will be leaving the dreary hell which is Troy and returning to my humble abode in Jersey. For others who have spring break as well, enjoy! If you have midterms, well, good luck.
I might be upgrading (yes, I will use this term) my laptop from Debian to Gentoo and Windows XP. I suppose one of the reasons why Windows will be back on there is due to the crappy Linux/DRI video support for the Radeon 7500 Mobility. I'm getting 1/4 the performance I should be ...
