Okay, some changes. One of my nameservers still has the wrong IP because register.com doesn't feel like updating it. Most of my network at school just got firewalled, so stuff might be a little wierd. (I firewalled myself, not RPI)
Oh, yea, so, my stats (graphs) for the current poll are broken. I don't have time to fix it, oh well.
*yawn* Not much going on lately, my IED course is starting to get annoying due to the massive amounts of work required. The lan party went well last night, two rooms 100% filled, and the first round of pizza went in under 40 seconds. Typical.
On a side note, RPI has been having some major network issues. Apparently a 15-year-old router is biting the dust and will be replaced within the month (this means year). So, if you're here now, don't be surprised when the page is down on your next visit...
Haha, antiderivative.net. Yes, I'm a lamer.
Just reminding all of you...LAN party this weekend. Saturday night -> Sunday morning in Lally 102. Be there or be square! I'll be bringing tacolinux, so the site might be down temporarily when I relocate. I set some of the dns records to 5min since tacolinux will have a different IP that night :)
Hope to see you there!
Haha, wireless lans are cool :) During the intermission of Oklahoma! (in NYC) I went to the lobby and randomly plugged my 802.11b CF card into my Zaurus and voila, I got a weak signal and IP address! Apparently somebody on Road Runner nearby was kind enough to share their access with the general public. Wasn't long before people crowded me and messed up the signal though. Had just enough time to hit Slashdot and IRC...
Just setup a small VPN between my machines between a couple different networks (RPI Dorm, RPI ACM Lab, Home) with CIPE. Standing for Crypto IP Encapsulation, it allows you to establish PPP links between boxes using encrypted UDP packets. Really cool! I can play Quake III over it, encrypted! (Okay, that wasn't the best example, but I'm sure you can think of a better one)
Maybe I'll write a small howto in the future, but for now, there are still a number of issues that need to be worked-out. Mainly performance, since stuff like SMB is awfully sluggush...
So, the fall semester has finally started. Classes are ok it seems, although IED might require more time than I'd like to give it.
As you might have noticed recently, atlantis/proserv has been taken down, due to administrative issues at RPI. The machine atlantis.prolixium.com still runs, however I've classified it as "expendable" since the connection could be cut at any point. Only trivial services are hosted now.
In other campus-related news, the RPI-ACM installfest was a success, enabling students to install GNU/Linux or *BSD on their new IBM ThinkPad T30 notebooks. There will be a LAN party within the next couple of weeks sponsored by SIG-Linux. Stay tuned to that site or www.rpi-acm.org for further details and dates. The next ACM general meeting will be held next Tuesday at 8pm in Lally 102, topic will be geek jeopardy. Just thought I'd share some news :)
