Well, according to the ElectricMonk, summer is 82.35% over. That means I go back to RPI soon for my last year! Next summer it's off to the job market, hehe ... ack
Anyway, lots of studying and work to be done before then. My class is finishing up with a bang, and my work at CAIP is ending next Friday. Overall, I think the summer went well, there was certainly not a dull moment ...
Just realized I haven't posted anything lately, probably due to classes, work, and a recent trip to Puerto Rico.
The Internet Tech. class I'm taking at Rutgers (CS 352) is ok. Took the first exam yesterday and have a Java (eek) project due on Saturday. No, I don't like Java at all. But the material is kinda interesting, makes you realize how complicated the TCP protocol actually is.
So earlier this week I replaced the faulty chipset fan on tacolinux's ABit KG7-RAID motherboard. At first when I upgraded to 2.4.21, I thougt it was the kernel that was causing lockups, but then I realized the fan on the AMD 761 chipset wasn't really spinning. Good thing there wasn't any permanent damage.
I threw together a more organized MRTG page, which is now categorized for your enjoyment and curiosity.
I took a day trip up to RPI yesterday for a small party and router maintenance. It was nice to see some people from school, as well as the campus that seems to be even more under construction than when I left it back in May. Hopefully things will settle down (and look better) by the time fall comes around.
And tomorrow starts my summer class at Rutgers University. I'm hoping I'll learn a bit from Internet Technology will be informative and enjoyable.
Enjoy the non-rainy weather this week!
Since Linux 2.4.21 came out today, I upgraded tacolinux, but haven't seen any IDE performance increase yet ... maybe I'll feel the difference eventually. At least 2.4.21 includes Gcc 3.3 compile fixes and that dreaded ptrace patch.
Have a nice weekend!
I put up a couple photo galleries of my trip to California.
Whoo! Finally, after power failures, machine crashes, routing snafus, and proxy issues, prolixium.com is finally back online! Ok, well, there's still a router in the middle of the link that is still crashing, but that will be replaced with a new Dell Dimension 2350 I just won on eBay today for $256. (Ok, so eBay isn't that bad I guess ... )
In other news, I got back from vacation on the west coast on Saturday, only to find that most of the ACM's network had suffered multiple power outages. Good thing I resolved a bit of that Saturday evening, and the chairman fixed the rest today.
Oh, yeah, vacation ... well, I'll put photos up soon. Making thumbnails takes a couple seconds, it's the photo descriptions that usually take me too long. Overall I had a fun time, and I got to see my 2nd cousin Griff, who I don't think I've ever actually met.
Enough news for one post, maybe I'll add another.
I'll be taking a trip to the west-coast for a week or so on Thursday, expect no news for awhile.
On a site note, I've been messing with OpenAFS lately, trying to explore ACLs and Kerebos authentication. I'll see if I can get /afs/prolixium.com online soon, so you can all hack it to your heart's content.
I was quite disappointed that none of the local bookstores had any books on AFS...I'll have to do the online order deally.
