So, I ranted yesterday about how Xfce 4.6 was broken. I found one simple fix for the focus follows mouse delay. Basically, the GUI's focus delay slider sets the delay to 100ms when shoved all the way to the left. There isn't a way to set it to 0.
Luckily, since all of Xfce's configuration is in XML, it's possible to tune the knob by editing the right file. In this case, it's xfwm4.xml:
% cd ~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml % grep focus_delay xfwm4.xml <property name="focus_delay" type="int" value="100"/>
While outside of X (or using another WM), edit the file and set that value to 0 instead of 100, and you will be good to go!
Unfortunately, VMware Workstation now seems to have major problems with Xfwm (but they fixed the cursor flying to the other screen issue!). Menus and the GTK widgets fail to redraw when switching in & out of fullscreen mode. I may submit a bug about it, with the chance of being flamed for whining about a proprietary application.
Well, they really did a nice job with Xfce 4.6… NOT!
I just upgraded it to it today on Debian, and right off the bat am seeing the following problems:
Ugh! I guess I could downgrade, but why bother, if I'm going to eventually have to deal with this when 4.4 is obsolete and removed?
Anyone else notice similar issues? I really just wish sloppy focus would work the way it does in 4Dwm. None of this Alt+Tab nonsense! Maybe I am just too old-school.
Moon looked interesting last night (and the weather was nice!), so I took some photos near the new Bank of America buildings in Ballantyne. I think only two or three turned out well:
One of these days I'm going to learn how to use my camera properly, I think.
Ok, sites need to standardize their mobile content URLs:
How about everyone just use *.mobi? Also, some sites automatically detect mobile devices based on user-agent, but most don't. Even worse, some sites have iPhone-specific sites, like iphone.foxnews.com. WHY? Are we going to have sites for every type of mobile phone, now?
Stupidity! It's contageous!
Hi! Welcome, to Charlotte.
Today, weather will be a sunny 58°F with some clouds moving in tonight. Tomorrow, the high will be 24°F with an 80% chance of a snowstorm. Tomorrow evening, clouds breaking up and the temperature rising to 48°F. Thursday, high of 90°F with a chance of a thunderstorm and some heavy rain. Friday, ice storms expected…
Yeah, that pretty much sums up the weather, lately.
You thought it would never happen? Well, think again!
Today marks a historic day in Mythbuntu development. Over the last year we have been having discussions with several major cable companies in the United States regarding enabling CableCARD support for all Mythbuntu users. Late last year we reached an agreement with two of those major companies, Time Warner & Comcast. As excited as we were about this agreement, we unfortunately had to remain silent because of an NDA regarding the implementation. In our contract we agreed to develop a technical preview version of the CableCARD support to be released shortly before Mythbuntu 9.04 was to cut the gold media. This would allow users to test the implementation and report bugs while leaving approximately one month for engineers to resolve those reported issues.

Other than them labeling Time Warner Cable incorrectly as Time Warner, this is excellent news. I'm not too excited about purchasing an ATI card, but I will live!
Update: Yeah, I think I was had, it looks like this was April fools. Very nice for them not to put the date anywhere on that page. NOT funny, I'm staying clear of Mythbuntu because of this.
I need to do this: http://xkcd.com/562/.
