I was at Target yesterday, and saw the Eee PC for $299.  Being a practiced impulse buyer, I picked it up.  In all honesty, I've been thinking of replacing my aging IBM T42 for awhile, but haven't pulled the trigger.

The preloaded (apparently Xandros) Linux install offered some funny-looking menus and Firefox, so I went on to install Debian GNU/Linux.

After some hair pulling and repetitive USB boot disk creation, I got almost everything working, except for the following:

• CPU frequency scaling (cpufreq).  p4-clockmod.ko loads, but the CPU clock won't budge, regardless of what governor is loaded.
• There seems to be a small lag every couple of seconds.  This can be observed during motion of the mouse, typing, and watching any kind of video.
