After replacing the HP MIO card (with an extra I had lying around) in my HP LaserJet 5, I realized cups/gs was actually at fault:

Boo.  Some upgrade must have broken something.

On another note, does anyone know how to get Mutt to negotiate correctly with the IMAP (non-SSL) service on Microsoft Exchange?  Specifically, version 5.0.2195.6713.  It'll challenge me for authentication, then just hang.
