Case Update: 474895 - Time Lapse Questions & Problems From GoPro Date Today 21:57 <- <<- -> [] Update for Case #474895 - "Time Lapse Questions & Problems" Hi - > What kind of SD card are you using (class, brand)? This one, purchased directly from GoPro: http://gopro.com/camera-accessories/32gb-microsd-memory-card > Have you ran the most recent firmware update for your HERO3: Black Edition? Yes, I have. I'm running firmware: HD3.03.02.00. > In what kind of environment were you filming? All sorts of environments. Underwater, on land, in the sun, in the dark, etc. Can you be more specific about? > Did your camera experience any sudden forces or impacts? No. > We hope this helps, let us know if you have any further questions. This helps with issue #2, thank you. I will keep an eye out for the new firmware. My issue #1 remains unanswered. However, I have narrowed down the root cause. Apparently the HERO3 resets the file number to 0 when the camera is turned off, so if you take a few videos or time lapses, turn off the camera, then turn it back on and take more video or time lapses (or anything, actually), they overwrite the existing files in every instance. I have written up the specifics a blog entry: http://www.prolixium.com/blog?id=982 It's detailed in "The Bad" section. Please confirm whether this is a known /defect/ and if this will be addressed in a firmware upgrade, as well. It renders the camera fairly unusable unless you're willing to carry around a computer or multiple SD cards for whenever you want to shut off the camera. We’ve been experiencing a higher than normal email volume lately, and we’re doing our best to answer everyone as quickly as possible in the order in which we were contacted. Thanks for your patience. What kind of SD card are you using (class, brand)? Have you ran the most recent firmware update for your HERO3: Black Edition? In what kind of environment were you filming? Did your camera experience any sudden forces or impacts? You situation with the exposure of the camera is a known issue, as the HERO3: Black Editions time-lapse setting uses an automatic exposure setting that's set when the first photo of the time lapse is taken. If your lighting environment is changing over time, we suggest starting a new time-lapse photo sequence before the lighting change, as it will prevent your photos from being underexposed or overexposed. Our engineers are currently working on a new firmware update that will fix this problem, and we hope to release this update sometime within the new year. We hope this helps, let us know if you have any further questions. Many Thanks, Jeremy D. For example, I recently captured 6x distinct time-lapse sessions (5-10 minutes each at 5MP, 1 photo per 1 second). After each session, I stopped the time-lapse and powered off the camera. However, when looking at the files on the computer only photos for the last two sessions were on the camera. The 32 GB SD card was only at 30% capacity and the battery was full. I also had this happen with only two sessions, recently. Photos from the last time lapse session were on the SD card, but not the first one. It's like the camera is getting confused or overwriting previous time lapse photos when starting a new session. Is this a firmware bug or is there a hidden setting that I need to change that is somehow affecting this? 2) Is there a way to get the white balance to be evaluated during each photo during a time lapse session? Right now it seems to evaluate the white balance for the first photo and then uses the same settings for all of the subsequent photos within the same capture session. As a result, if I start a time lapse during the day (or at early dusk) and run it through into the evening - the night photos will look 100% black. If I re-start the time lapse at night, the photos look as they should (ie, the white balance is evaluated when I restart the time lapse session). Is there an option for this? Nothing is listed in the manual relating to time lapse white balance. Thanks for your assistance on these issues! - Mark Kamichoff
